Merano Flower Festival: 27th to 29th April the most colourful weekend in Italy

Spring has settled in and it has brought all the blooming flowers with it. Merano, one of the greenest cities in Europe, is ready to celebrate the new season with a beautiful Flower Festival. From the 27th to the 29th of April, the streets of Merano will be bursting with flowers and plants which will colour and perfume this South Tyrolese city.

For two days and a half you will live in an enchanted world, learn more about nature and have the opportunity to convert your lifestyle into a greener one.

The main stage of the Flower Festival will be Piazza Terme and Parco delle Terme, where there will be a flower and plant market exhibition, with free admission, and a rich programme of related events.

On the first day, the 27th of April, there will an opening ceremony. After all it’s its first edition! At 12:30 pm a “Flower Aperitivo” will be served, accompanied with the music of Aluna Quartet. Then, a Flower Show Cooking with Jakob Haller, a chef with experience in restaurants in several countries, including NOMA in Copenhagen.

This feast for the eyes keeps going on the 28th with a market where you will be able to find flowers and plants from the best greenhouses in Italy.

Several workshops for both adults and kids will also take place. You will learn how to live a greener life with smaller environmental footprint!

During the festival there will be one more market that you shouldn’t leave unvisited: Saturday’s Traditional Market. A place to get to know more about, not only the products of the earth, but original handicraft goods as well.

Overall, a suggestion for a different weekend, in a city surrounded by nature, that will please both kids and grownups.

The festival also counts with a talk on the theme of “vertical gardens”, which will happen on the beautiful Castel Trauttmansdorff’s Gardens, with more than 80 botanical environments with flowers from all the world.

The weekend of Merano Flower Festival will also be the launching moment for the new project “Shopping in e-bike”. From the end of April it will be possible to rent e-bikes in the city and, by following the instructions of a local guide, visit the farms in the neighbouring villages where it’s possible to buy local delicacies: marmalade, cheeses, fruit juices, eggs, milk, biscuits and many things more.

To support this project, Merano’s Tourism Office has invited an artist and a craftsman who have collaborated in the creation of “Nest” – a shopping bag that has a dual function. First, it’s a comfortable coating for the e-bike basket, where you can store the purchased products in special compartments and then it transforms itself into an equally convenient bag to take the goods home.

Merano Flower Festival related events will also take place in other South Tyrolese cities like Naturno, 14th and 15th April, with the theme “Culture in the Garden”; in Tirolo, on the 1st of May, with “A table in Tirol” and in Scena, from the 4th of May to the 6th, dedicated to the “market of the herbs and the flavours of the farm”.
